Why do we knock on doors for candy?
The tradition comes from medieval “souling”. Children would go door to door offering prayers for the head in exchange for food. Later, in Ireland and Scotland people went “guising” wearing costumes and performing tricks for treats.
It wasn’t until the 1930’s in the U.S. that “Trick or Treat” became the phrase we know today.
